35 The Star of David Violin

This violin was originally made for klezmer performance, carrying the sound of Jewish life and celebration. Its careful restoration has been dedicated to the memory of Wolf and Bunia Rabinowitz, a brother and sister remembered for their extraordinary musical gifts.

During World War II, both Wolf and Bunia performed multiple concerts inside the Vilna Ghetto, bringing music to a community struggling under the harshest conditions. Their talent and spirit made them stand out as young “wonder children,” admired for their ability to inspire through music even in times of despair.

Tragically, both siblings were killed along with the last remaining members of the ghetto, most likely in the Ponar forest, about ten kilometers outside Vilnius. This violin now bears their dedication, ensuring their story, their music, and their memory continue to be heard.
