This violin was donated to the project by Ana, Eli, and Ben Ehrenpreis. Its restoration is dedicated to the memory of Jewish communities destroyed in violent pogroms carried out by local citizens in several Polish villages and shtetls during 1941.
One of the most devastating took place in Jedwabne on July 10, 1941. On that day, Jewish residents were rounded up, humiliated, and attacked. Men were killed outright, while women, children, and the elderly were forced into a barn and burned alive. Approximately 1,600 people perished, with only seven survivors.
Similar atrocities occurred in nearby towns, including Radzilow, Szczuczyn, and Kolno. This violin stands in dedication to those communities, bearing witness to the violence that destroyed them and preserving their memory through music.
