Melodies of Resilience: Featuring the Cohen String Quartet
This program is offered in partnership with Violins of Hope: Wisconsin, presented by Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra. Experience an unforgettable evening showcasing the Violins of Hope — instruments that bear witness to Jewish history and the people who once played them. These powerful symbols will be on display throughout the day, leading up to an evening event filled with poignant reflections and beautiful music.
The evening will feature an insightful talk by the Holocaust Education Resource Center, shedding light on a crucial period in history. Following this, our music faculty will lead a brief discussion on two featured Jewish composers: Viktor Ullmann and Erwin Schulhoff.
The program culminates in a moving performance by the Cohen String Quartet, presenting Ullmann’s powerful String Quartet No. 3 and Schulhoff’s vibrant Alla Tango milonga from Five Pieces for String Quartet. A movement from Mozart’s String Quintet will also be performed, creating a program that bridges past and present through the universal language of music.
