Violins of Hope: Call and Response

Violins of Hope: Wisconsin, presented by Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra, presents Call and Response, a powerful exhibition inviting visitors into a dialogue between history and contemporary artistic response. The gallery will feature 20 restored Holocaust-era violins from Violins of Hope—each carrying its own story of resilience—displayed alongside original visual artworks created in response by members of the Jewish Artists Collective Chicago.
Complementing these artworks, primary source materials from UWM Special Collections will also be on display, offering a deeper understanding of the historical experiences connected to these extraordinary instruments.
Opening Event — December 3, 2025
Join us for an inspiring opening program featuring historical insights from UWM Music Professor Gillian Rodger and a live performance on one of the Violins of Hope by Jamie Hofman, Director of the UWM String Academy.
