Violins of Hope Exhibit at Concordia

In the midst of World War II, as Germany battled across Europe, the Holocaust was taking place. Jewish prisoners and others targeted by the Nazis played violins in the ghettos and concentration camps. Many musicians were forced to play; others played as an act of quiet defiance.
Today, their music bears witness still — rising again, stronger and more vibrant — a testament to survival, remembrance, and hope.
As part of Violins of Hope: Wisconsin, presented by Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra, Concordia University Wisconsin will host an exhibit in its Art Gallery featuring a selection of these historic instruments, some with known histories and others that remain silent witnesses to the past.
